Study in Germany —
More Than One Path

From Hong Kong to German universities · One-stop guidance

Why Germany

World-Class Education,
Without the Price Tag

Germany is one of the world's most rewarding study destinations — and one of the most overlooked by Hong Kong families. Most public universities charge no tuition fees, degrees are internationally recognised, and graduates enjoy generous rights to stay and work in Europe.

JCTJ guides students and families through every step: eligibility assessment, German language training, university and Studienkolleg applications, visas, accommodation, and settling in — with our own team in both Hong Kong and Germany.

The Advantages

Six Reasons Families
Choose Germany

I
💶

Low Investment, High Return

Public universities and graduate schools are tuition-free regardless of nationality — EU citizen or not. Study, then build a life: a German degree opens residence pathways and free movement across the EU.

II
🎓

Rigorous Education

Germany teaches to each student's strengths rather than chasing elitism. The result: deep theory, hands-on practice, and generations of professionals — including well over a hundred Nobel laureates, placing Germany among the world's top three.

III
🏅

A Culture of Quality

From Karl Lagerfeld to Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Bosch and Siemens — German education produces world-leading talent and brands in technology and the arts alike. "Made in Germany" is a byword for quality.

IV
💼

Work While You Study

Students may work 140 full days (or 280 half days) per year without a separate permit — building experience, income, and a professional network. After graduation, an 18-month residence permit lets you stay and launch your career in Germany.

V
🌍

The Heart of Europe

Live in the centre of the continent. Weekend trips to Paris, Vienna, or Amsterdam; internships and exchanges across the EU; and a safe, stable society with excellent public infrastructure.

VI
🤝

A Truly International Home

Hundreds of thousands of international students study in Germany, with English-taught programmes available alongside German ones. You'll join one of the world's largest and most welcoming international student communities.

Made in Germany · A Legacy of Excellence

Pathway 01 · Secondary School

Start Early:
German Boarding & Secondary Schools

For younger students, entering the German school system early is the smoothest route of all. Students master the language naturally, graduate with the Abitur, and apply to German universities on equal footing with local students — no Studienkolleg, no conversion of grades.

  • Placement in reputable Gymnasien, boarding and international schools
  • German language preparation before and after arrival
  • Guardianship arrangements and a trusted local contact in Germany
  • Ongoing academic monitoring and regular reports to parents

Pathway 02 · University after DSE

DSE Results Are a Path —
Not the Only Path

With Level 3 or above in five DSE subjects — Chinese, English, Mathematics plus two electives — students already meet the basic entry qualification for German public universities. Most programmes also require German at C1 level, which is why early planning matters.

Didn't reach five Level 3s? Germany still has a place for you: internationally recognised private universities (from around €9,000 per year) and the Studienkolleg foundation route both lead to a full degree — and the same right to stay and work after graduation.

  • Public universities: tuition-free, approx. €300 per semester in administrative fees
  • Intensive German courses (9–23 months, from approx. €8,000) with telc B2/C1 exam preparation
  • Popular fields: engineering, business, medicine, psychology, nursing and more
  • Full support: applications, visa, housing, airport pickup and settling in
